29/June/2009: Michael Jackson's "Number ones album of greatest hits", storms to number one in the UK album chart. Overall, Michael Jackson accounted for over 300,000 record sales across singles and albums in just two days during the final week of June 2009 in the UK alone.
In the Michael Jackson Memerial, The Reverend Al Sharpton credited Michael Jackson with demolishing racial barriers. Sharpton also called on fans to not focus on the scars of Jackson's career, but to focus on the journey. To Jackson's kids he said: "There was nothing strange about your daddy. What was strange is what your daddy had to deal with".
"This is a moment that I wished that I didn't live to see come...Michael I love you and I have told you that many times" Stevie Wonder, in the MJ memorial. In 1987, Wonder appeared on Michael Jackson's Bad album on the duet "Just Good Friends". The song was performed live on one occasion in Sydney/Australia, when Wonder made a surprise appearance at Jackson's show at the Parramatta Stadium. They were Great friends.
A Michael Jackson memorial statue will be put up in Harrods, the London store's owner Mohamed Fayed has said following the pop star's sudden death. He said Jackson once asked to have his own statue at the Harrods store in Knightsbridge, central London, which was "one of his favourite places".
Michael Jackson's children will net a £300million windfall from footage of the rehearsals for his final shows. A £30 million film featuring unseen film of Jacko's last days is already in the pipeline. Once it has been sold around the world, tour promoter AEG expects to bank £200 million. AEG boss Randy Phillips said Jackson's kids Prince, 12, Paris, 11 and Blanket, seven, will get "the lion's share" of royalties.
Michael Jackson won 13 Grammy awards. Ten for his work as a solo artist, three others were shared with producer Quincy Jones, his sister Janet, and various artists who contributed to his Aid for Africa track, We Are the World. The album Thriller netted him Album of the Year and Best Pop vocal Performance awards. Tracks Billie Jean and Beat It each won another pair of Grammys.
Through his "Heal the World" Foundation, Michael Jackson spearheaded airlifts of food and medical supplies to war torn Sarajevo, instituted mentoring, immunization and drug-abuse education programs and paid for a Hungarian child's liver transplant.
In 1997, Michael Jackson released an album of new material coupled with remixes of hit singles from the “HIStory” album titled “Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix”. He dedicated the album to his friend Sir Elton John, who had helped him through his addiction to prescribed painkillers. It went on to sell 6 million copies worldwide, making it the biggest selling remix album of all time.
Michael Jackson's album "Dangerous" (1991) is second to "Thriller" as the biggest selling album of all time, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide.
